H/W 3/14

When trying a new search, I decided to go for a government data search because I could look up what the government ideas are on censorship and see if they are not as alert on the topic as they use to be. I’ve tried looking for statistics to see if there was any effect on children that watch a certain television show or movie with different levels of censorship but I was out of luck. I used the website http://transition.fcc.gov/eb/oip/ and found out about some of the laws they have on censorship. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is in charge of enforcing the laws on censorship so I decided to go further into my research and see what I could find on them. I found a link on this page of statistics they took on complaints they have received for having too much violence and I was shocked to see how much the number of complaints has increased from 1993 to 2000. The graph in the link says it all http://transition.fcc.gov/eb/oip/ComplStatChart.pdf. Even though this was from 2000, I know for a fact that the numbers must have increased because as a child growing up in the 90’s, I was not too aware of all the violence and profanity on television. Taking a government side to my research project has defiantly given me  boost on giving information to my research project.

HW 3/5

The first tool I tried was Delicious.com. It was somewhat useful for finding my topic with articles on some banned children’s cartoons and such but not very specific on my research topic. I do believe that this site is useful for everyday life and interest because this site has a lot of content that use could use in everyday life. The next site I used was Stumbleupon.com. It seemed a little more vague to me when trying to find stuff on my research topic but there was still content there I can use for it. This is defiantly a site you can use for everyday life. The last site I looked at was Twitter. I never used Twitter in the past because it seems so pointless to me, however I did join last summer, and I have not been on it since. I did find some interesting searches I can use for my topic. Unlike me, people seem to use this site in their everyday lives. I use social media to stay in the loop of everyday life. I have always used Facebook as a social media but I am now using Reddit because there are more interesting things on it. I have also actually learned a few things from Reddit that I can apply to everyday life.
